iOS 9 Stuck in Slide to Upgrade

Recently i just tried to upgrade my 2 devices :
First, iPhone 5s from iOS 7 to iOS 9 using Wi-Fi.
Second, iPad 2 from iOS 8 to iOS 9 using Wi-Fi.

Upgrade of the iPad went successful.
But on iPhone upgrade, i was stuck in “Slide to Upgrade” step.
I could not do anything. I slided thousand times. Nothing happened.

I searched the solution on reddit, apple.com, imore.com, etc, and there are quite lot of people having same problem with me.

Then i found a solution on reddit, posted by user “dreammakr“.

Finally fixed it! You have to downgrade to 8.4.1. Outlined the steps below.

Step 1 – Backup your pictures! Even though you can’t get to your phone and use it you should still be able to backup your pictures

Step 2 – Download IOS 8.4.1 for your iPhone or iPad from this site –> https://ipsw.me/8.4.1

The file was taking a while to download for my phone so I searched the filename on Google and downloaded from Mega.

Step 3 – Reboot phone into DFU mode – hold down power button and home button – when it reboots let go of power button – still hold home button

At this point it will ask you to connect your phone to iTunes – will have to connect phone to the computer.

Step 4 – Hold down the Option (Mac) or Shift (Windows) and and then click restore.

Step 5 – Browse to the 8.4.1 file you downloaded and select it. This should restore to the previous IOS version. Note: This will wipe phone.

Step 6 – Restore from backup. Hope that you backed up before attempting to update.

UPDATE : After installing 8.4.1 I was able to update to IOS9 with no issues. I was initially running IOS7 when I attempted to upgrade the first time. Hope this helps everyone out.

If you are confused which IPSW file you should download, please open this link first.

  1. I updated my iTunes in my computer to the latest version.
  2. So i downloaded the IPSW file using my computer.
  3. I opened my iTunes.
  4. I rebooted my iPhone in DFU mode.
  5. I connected iPhone to iTunes.
  6. I chose to retore using the IPSW file.
  7. After 10-20 minutes, the iPhone was working again, but back to factory reset.
  8. I connected iPhone to iTunes again, and i restored my previous backup (before this nightmare) using iTunes.

I hope this will help someone out there.

Update :
After my iPhone used iOS 8.4.1, and i restored my iPhone data, then i connected the iPhone to my iTunes and i updated to iOS 9 from iTunes.
The upgrade went well, and there was no error at all. 🙂
